"Pondlife: A Swimmer's Journal"

Am reading Al Alvarez's diary of his swims on Hampstead Heath entitled "Pondlife" (reviewed by the Telegraph and  Guardian). He says in limpid, lucid language what this blog nudges at in pictures, but we evidently share the same cold-water compulsion - the same atavism.
Another 2km at Queenford this morning and a welcome first chat with some of the other swimmers, all of whom seem to be training for various events, from triathlons to channel swims.

Distance...

Another 2km tonight - I'll never get back to Norway at this rate :(

No Viking, no sauna, no fun!

A lonely swim in Queenford lake this morning, dreaming of another shore

Red noust; rosy future

Harald has taken on the job of Caretaker at the Bjornsund activity camp, which means we'll be making our home on this small island, and we'll be living in the loft of the red boat-house (noust) on the left of this image.

Swimming to Søre

A perfect day for a swim to South Bjørnsund during our lunch break from a jetty in Hammarøy to one in Søre, with my Viking ever at hand to knock jelly fish on the head should they decide to fraternise.
The water has crept up to a warmish 11c. Harald put on a burst of speed on the way back and the hotter he got, the colder the breeze he whipped up!
